Fresh Ricotta & Berry Bruschetta

March 10, 2016

Ricotta App2

~ Mary ~

These look like little game pieces on a very large game board. They were so fresh and satisfying it was hard not to keep popping them in my mouth. This was another Easter Brunch treat, we had as an appetizer, last year. The idea came to us when we were standing in Cossetsa’s looking at the fresh ricotta.
The bread was a bit of a PITA, but once Corner Bakery comes to town you can go get their Raisin Pecan Sweet Crisps. Read more…

Asparagus Tart

Asparagus Tart

~ Mary ~

It’s very sad when a post has been sitting in the drafts for a year, and it’s basically ready to go.

We had this last Easter, it was very pretty (we like prettiness), easy to make, and most importantly, delish!
It’s Ash Wednesday, which means Easter is right around the corner and I’ll be making this again! Read more…

‘Sig’nature Chocolate Torte

Chocolate Torte

~ Mary ~

Waaaay back when, John and I would host a pre-Thanksgiving party for our work colleagues. One year Stephanie and Shawn arrived with this cake. Stephanie promptly said it was not of her making, but rather Sig’s (the wonderful Chef). It was his way of an apology for not being able to make it. I said wonderful, I’ll put it on the buffet table. She looked at me, in all seriousness, and said I don’t think you’ll want to do that – you should really just keep it wrapped up and save it for yourself – trust me. Pffft was my reply – no way. She shook her head, and said “okay, you’ll see”.  An hour, or so, later I dug into the cake – of course I was the first one. With the first bite my eyes popped out of my head, I set my piece down and quietly took the rest of the cake to the kitchen, wrapped it up, and shoved it in a cupboard out of sight. No one was the wiser, except Steph – she just politely said “I told you so”! Read more…

Pumpkin Soup

~ Mary ~
This is one of the loveliest soups I have ever had the pleasure of putting together. It’s simple and flavorful. I adapted it slightly from Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill cookbook.

Salty Honey Pie

Salty Honey Pie

~ Mary ~
This is the second time I’ve made this delicious little treat. I was gifted with fresh honey from my childhood friend, Patrick, who is a part-time bee farmer during the summer months. I know you’ll enjoy it as much as we did! It’s a pie like no other and comes together in a snap.

Lemon Chess Pie

Lemon Chess Pie

~ Mary ~

It’s pie season! I’m going to post pies back to back! Posts are getting fewer and farther between – and my photography is down right lazy. But what can I do – I rely on this site for all my favorites, and when they’re not here I get a little sad. This pie shared space with the Salty Honey Pie at a dinner party recently. We had a conversation about how “Chess” pie came to be – I’ll let you wiki it and be the judge. Both pies were excellent – or I wouldn’t even bother posting them – Four and Twenty Blackbirds cookbook never ceases to be spot on!

German Chocolate Cake II

German Chocolate

~ Mary ~

It was Fred’s birthday again – funny how that works out. His favorite cake is German’s Chocolate. There’s a bit of a history I learned while looking for the perfect recipe – I thought it was a cake with German origins, but it’s not. The person who invented it – their last name was German. Check it out!

San Sebastian Sangria

San Sebastian Sangria
~ Mary ~
It has ‘San Sebastian’ in front of Sangria so none of you fans of Patty’s Sangria have any mis-conceptions. I’ve had this recipe ready to post for two years. I just needed the photo. This photo is not a good one, and I apologize for that. You see, it’s a major pain in the hieney when you have guests coming over, to haul out the photography equipment – lights, camera, camera stand, back drop –  and have ample time to craft a decent photo – those suckers take work! I finally decided to take an inadequate photo and just post this recipe, because I keep having to log into my account so I can make this sangria! Read more…
