This post is an ode to our favorite burger joint: Kuma’s Corner.  If you follow us on Facebook, you’d already know the love we have for this Chicago hot spot,  and that it was voted Best Burger in the Chicago Reader.  Any time anyone visits us, it is a must on the list of places to go.  Even though the wait to be seated often times exceeds two hours, it’s well worth it!  The bonus is they have excellent craft beers on tap and in bottles.  No domestic brews here except for PBR (probably for the camp value it adds).

Kuma's Facade - most days the sidewalk is full with the over-flow due to the extra long waits to be seated. Photo compliments of kara brugman aka:hyperbolation. Click photo to be taken to their flickr page

Kuma’s is located on the corner of Elston and Belmont at 2900 West Belmont in Chicago.  We warn everyone that Kuma’s has a Heavy Metal atmosphere, to say the least, and they might need to wrap their minds around that before visiting.  We like it best during the day when the music isn’t on at decibles so high you can’t hear the person next to you.

.

Kuma's Megadeath Burger

.

The last time we visited, Sean had Kuma’s Megadeath: 10 ounces of pure premium ground beef grilled to perfection, topped with chorizo and red potato hash, pico de gallo, cayenne avocado cream and tortilla strips.

.

The service has ALWAYS been EXCELLENT,  friendly and attentive.  This staff knows their beer and the food they’re serving!

.

Kuma's Plague Bringer

.

One of our all-time favorites: Kuma’s Plague Bringer: 10 ounces of pure premium ground beef grilled to perfection then topped with: Roasted Garlic Mayo, Tortilla Strips, Chicago CO-OP hot sauce, Fresh Garlic, Pepper Jack and Sliced Jalapenos. All served on a pretzel bun with your choice of homemade chips, waffle fries or the best side salad known to man!

.

.

Here you get a glimpse of the original ink soft porn drawings that line the east wall along the seating area.  This particular bartender has a tattoo of a woman on the back of her left arm.  You can see it when she turns around.  When she’s at the cash register getting change, that tattoo ‘shakes’ in the hips and bust perfectly.  A true work of art.

A lot of people wonder when Kuma’s will expand.  John’s and my bet is on never.  Why should they?  They’ve got the perfect set up:  loyal, hardworking, dedicated staff,  all holidays, drunkadays, amateur days, and any other day they want  off.  And did I mention the standard two hour wait?  Yeah, you could say they have a cult following.  Why on earth would they want to ruin it by expanding?!

.

Kuma's Insect Warfare

.

Insect Warfare: 10 ounces of pure premium ground beef grilled to perfection. Topped with panko-crusted medallion of goat cheese, caramelized onions, roasted corn and green chili, topped with a roasted corn, cilantro and green chili salsa on a huge pretzel roll.

I even emulated a couple of their burgers of the month in my own kitchen..  They were THAT good!  You can check them out: October’s Agenda of Swine and December’s Eyehategod.

Thanks Kuma’s, for the great burgers, beer and memories!

Looks like the place and the burgers are originals! Wow. I want one, any of them. I am a burger queen around here, always thinking of new burgers to make. That is my kind of place BUT waiting for 2 hours? Yikes. I waited 1/2 hour outside Bartley’s Burgers in Harvard Square and I thought that was a long time. I would go crazy waiting that long.

Your lead photo for this article is my photograph. I’m not sure where you got it but you’ve kindly linked all your other photos to those photographers respective flicker accounts and given them the appropriate credit, and I’d appreciated you doing the same for me. I know this article is old but it took me accidentally stumbling across it on the internet to find that you were using my photo.

My most sincere apologies! I have no excuses other than I have no idea why I didn’t credit you. Thank you for being so kind!
