Papaya Mango Salsa Salad

August 9, 2009

Day 1  ~ Mary ~

As we tootle around Calgary this week you’re going to get a DAILY featured installment of Salsa Salads and Accouterments that go great with seafood, fish and poultry.

First up is this gorgeous Papaya Mango number.  I have never been a fan of papaya, but they were so gorgeous at the store cut in half , at peak ripeness, wrapped up and ready to go I couldn’t resist.

Did you know your taste buds change every seven years!?  It’s been forever since we stayed with Fred, over Christmas vacation in Trinidad & Tobago, that I last had a papaya – ummmm that would be more than 20 years ago.  I figured I could give them another chance –  it turns out the papaya was so lovely – I’ll be buying it more often!

I also marinated some chicken in the dressing for a couple hours before grilling.

I did not know the 7 year taste bud thingy. Good to know! hmmmm what have I not tried in a while….

I tried papaya about a month ago. I had a hard time enjoying it. I think it might have been a little too ripe – the texture bugged me 🙂

I’ll admit that papayas aren’t my favorite fruit, but the addition of mango makes this a LOT more appealing to me 🙂 I’ll have to give this a shot sometime soon.

Interesting to note ‘serve at room temp’ as I thought they are to be served cold at the first sight.

Refreshing photo friend. I just harvested my 1st bit of lime basil last night. I’ll bet it would go great in your luscious salsa salad. Wish I could send some to you 😉

Yum. This is a refreshing switch from the giganto burgers. Man cannot live by giant bacon burgers alone.
